  • What is Ơi? It is how Vietnamese ask for attention, by putting [name] + ơi.

We are thrilled to present you the Professor Cunningham And His Old School Band (NYC) who will swing 3 nights for us, and our Instructors: Carlos Machava (Maputo, Mozambique) who will teach us Afro Swing, Lainey Silver (NYC) & Hong Wee (Singapore) who will teach us Balboa, Mariko & Shinichiro (Osaka) who will teach us Lindy Hop this coming September 27 - 29, 2019!

Saigon Swing Cats is a community of Swing Dance lovers in Saigon since 2006. We keep this jazz vintage dance art alive and kicking and you should be dancing with us!

The Instructors

Instructor: Hong Wee owns a Leadership Consultancy business in the day, but his other true passion is executing dance leadership at night! He has been swing dancing since 2000, and began teaching in 2003. He has traveled widely and has won several competitions throughout Asia, including being the first non-Korean to be placed in Korea Lindy Hop Championship (KLHC) 2012. Teaching Lindy Hop and Balboa has brought him a lot of joy, as he gets to combine his favorite things – connecting with people, exercising, learning and most importantly, spreading the love of swing!!

Hong Wee

Instructors Mariko Okamoto & Shinichiro Okamoto 🔹MARIKO started dancing at the end of 2001. Since then, she never stopped dancing because she loves swing so much. She loves the authentic style of swing and has the motto that she follows not only the dance style of the era but music and even the way of her dressing. ▶She has been performing and teaching at a number of events while also loves social dancing and joining fun dance competitions in swing dance events all over Asia and other countries. 🔹SHIN: Through Mariko, he started swing dance, and has been working in partnership with her since 2014. With his natural rhythm and dance sense, he stands out in the swing scene. You will notice how his warm smiles and fun musicality can be entertaining to everyone dancing with him, watching him dance or taking his classes.

Formed and fronted by Aussie Adrian, a.k.a. the Professor, they are one of the most sought after groups on the international swing scene, performing around the world at major events and festivals. This award-winning New York based band performs the most swinging and grooving repertoire deeply steeped in the New Orleans tradition; from early jazz to early R&B in the aesthetic of Sidney Bechet, Fats Waller, Professor Longhair and even Fats Domino!
